Earlier this year, the nice folks at Zooma gave me a race registration to give away to a lucky abodyandabrain reader. Deasree, from Clarksville, won and had some interesting things to say about her experience. Here she is below, looking radiant after her race!
Which race did you run?
I did the 5k (walked)
How did you feel when you won the registration?
I was super excited to have won a free registration. I’d been debating about the Zooma Women’s race as it was a Sunday and I couldn’t get any of my friends to commit to joining me. So I felt it was meant to be when I won. Plus it was a week before my birthday and that made it a great way to begin my birthday celebration.
What did you do to prepare for the race?
I tried to walk 2 to 4 miles 3 to 4 times a week. Most weeks I was on target but there were a few weeks that I only got in two days. I also made sure I increased my water intake.
How did you feel right before the race started?
Before the race I was so inspired (I always am before a race) by all the women of many races, ethnicities, sizes, shapes, backgrounds, etc. to be out there doing what they enjoyed, doing their first 5k or half marathon, getting ready to reach a goal they’d set for themselves, etc.
What was the best part of the course?
(I didn’t like the big hill coming up 1st street off Broadway….lol) The best part of the course was coming down Broadway and feeling like we had the whole place to ourselves.
What was it like to cross the finish line?
I felt a sense of accomplishment when I crossed the finish line. I’m not a runner (super duper to the 10th power bad knees) but because I got up and walked in the race, I inspired someone to do something they didn’t think they could do. So in my world that makes me a WINNER!
Congratulations again to Deasree on her fantastic race and inspiring message. You ARE a winner! Want to win a registration for yourself? Stay tuned, kiddos. 🙂
